![]() When Palpatine was still twisting the Republic to his nefarious purpose, he manipulated the Clones and had them created only to fight in a war that was impossible to win. The destruction of Kamino wasn't even the first horror that the Empire inflicted on the Clones. The Clone X program shows exactly what the Empire thinks of Clones and shows that the Empire only saw them as a means to an end and a way to make use of a dying breed. It strips the Clones back to what they were in Attack of the Clones, back when they had nothing except war. The Empire removing that simply to make unflappable killers is a crime against the Clones and against the fans. The Clone Wars series highlighted this individualism and had fans connecting with each and every Clone. Each Clone developed a unique personality and set of skills, things that helped them stand out. Yet, soon they found out how unique they truly were. When they first entered the war, the Clones were just as prone to believe they were disposable and all identical as anyone else. ![]() The Clones fought hard to discover their sense of self beyond the shadow of war. While it may not be the Empire's biggest crime against Clones, it is one of the most personal and most devastating. The Clones already had the skills, but the Empire wiped them of their personality, their identity, and their moral code. The Clone X Program takes Clones and conditions them to be killing machines. These assassins were created from Clones, but Clones who had been tortured and broken down till they were a shell of their former self. The Empire has plenty of enemies and covert assassinations are key to maintaining their control of the galaxy. Clone X is more than just one person but is an entire program under the Empire designed to create disposable assassins. The Clone X program remained a mystery to fans until Season 3. From that point onward, the Clones were slowly eradicated through experimentation and suicide missions. If the Empire could kill their home, and kill all their brothers, then the Clones knew that they meant nothing, they were nothing to the Empire. The empire destroyed Kamino to kill the thousands of Clones that were there, to end cloning in the galaxy, and to break the spirit of the remaining Clones. ![]() This is what led Crosshair to kill Lieutenant Nolan in Season 2, Episode 12 "The Outpost." Crosshair was tired of being disposable. The new TK units found the Clones to be disposable and commanding officers treated them the same way. The Empire would have to exterminate the rest and that began with the destruction of Kamino.Ĭlones were treated like second-class citizens or worse once the Empire began to recruit other soldiers. ![]() Fans also knew that some of the only remaining Clones were Rex, Wolffe, and Gregor. Fans knew that Stormtroopers were coming, it was inevitable. Many of the Clones grew to regret Order 66, making them a huge liability to the new fascist government. The Clones had betrayed the Jedi, but that was only because of the inhibitor chips. The Empire needed a military, a strong army was necessary to keep the systems in line and maintain control. The Senate had to be maintained to keep the appearance of a free society, but the biggest remaining threat to the Empire was the Clones. When the Empire took over, it was unclear how it would deal with the remnants of the Republic. When the Empire took over, the Clone's sense of self, sense of purpose, and their homes were destroyed. While some fans may argue that is what they were bred to do, their interactions with the galaxy and the Jedi helped Clones like Rex, Cody, Fives, and Echo to evolve past their programming. The Clones fought and died for the Republic for years without ever looking for recognition or reward. When Palpatine formed the first-ever Galactic Empire, the senate lost all power and the Emperor began to commit crimes against the galaxy, especially against the former Army of the Republic. ![]() The Empire is not shy about committing atrocities, but the Clone X program is one of the worst perpetrated against the Clones. Not only is Clone X the biggest threat to Omega, but the Clone X program represents something far more sinister. Clone X is a massive danger to Clone Force 99 and to all the Clones that are left alive. Season 3, Episode 6 "Infiltration," and Episode 7 "Extraction," see the return of the mysterious Clone X or Sniper X, who has previously stalked The Bad Batch.
